From youtube GAMEOFTAROT, a mirror of one of my videos in response to ABC's The View

"The recent episode of ABC's The View called "A Paranormal View" was a disgrace! It was nothing more than an infomercial for John Edward's new Infinitequest.com website! This is not journalism!

On the subject of tarot history, that psychic tarot reader Sandy Anastasi, was either grossly misinformed or she's a big liar! None of what she said about the history of tarot cards is factually correct. ABC News, The View, and Whoopi Goldberg should be ashamed for promoting this distortion and stereotyping of other people's culture! We live in the age of the internet where factual information should be available to the media.

Someone should should have told Whoopi Goldberg and The View that tarot cards were really made for a card game which is still played mainly in continental Europe. They were not made for any supernatural, paranormal, or psychic purpose. There is no evidence at all that tarot cards were originally made for any other purpose than for playing a trick taking card game.

American tarot game players are trying to educate the general public about these card games and these biased and inaccurate tarot reports focusing only on psychics and fortune telling are damaging to our efforts to broaden the cultural horizons of other Americans. The mainstream media needs to stop promoting the misinformation and occult stereotypes surrounding tarot cards."

The star of this show was psychic John "Biggest Douche of the Universe" Edward and his Infinite Quest website. I took the time to watch Whoopi Goldberg get her Tarot reading and this show sucked ass badly, my friends! I sent my response to ABC News to inform them of a different angle from which to cover the Tarot.

<lj-embed id="8" />

"I found the segment on Tarot cards to be appalling. I play card games with Tarot cards. There is no evidence at all that Tarot cards were made for any other purpose than for playing a trick taking card game. Contrary to popular belief, the Tarot was not originally intended for telling fortunes. I wish Whoopi Goldberg were as skeptical as Joy Behar. Not one word uttered by psychic Sandy Anastasi was the truth. I don't mind if people wish to read Tarot cards but the media should stop spreading the distortions and falsehoods that these psychics often espouse. Google the terms "tarot card games" "tarock" "french tarot" or "jeu de tarot" and you will find a boatload of info on how Tarot is used for game playing. Tarot cards are not myserious. The information about them is on the internet. There is no excuse for this poor quality of journalism."
If you haven't already, then you may want to check my channel and view the first film in this series - that will give you a little background and explain why I want you to play card games with tarot! This programme will give you a brief introduction to the cards used, how they are ordered, and some of their names.

Like the other films in this series, you should try to watch in High Devinition and full screen - this will give you a clear look at the illustrations.

Part 2b is in the works and will introduce you to the basic conventions that are common to most of the games.

Please feel free to mirror this and the other film in the series. However, the best thing you can do to help this cause is to download the book of rules here: http://www.tarocchino.com and get yourself some cards - then start teaching your friends.
Tarot cards began to appear in early to mid 15th century Italy. The practice of reading tarot cards dates no earlier than the 18th century.
Tarot is the trick taking card game that brought forth the notion of a trump suit in card games. Tarot, like contract bridge and skat, has been called the "chess of card games" for good reason. Tarot has clearly made a valuable contribution to our game playing culture. This contribution is sadly being obscured by those who continue to sell tarot exclusively as a fortune telling or divination tool. . The notion that tarot cards are only used for fortune telling or the occult is completely false.
Not only do these games excercise one's thinking and memory skills, they are quite wholesome and suitable for all family members.
MIRROR THIS VIDEO AND REPOST! There is still a lot to learn about film making although the narration is perhaps the weakest part of this - I hope to improve with time.

As I say in the film, this is intended to be the first of a series that will go on to teach you how to play the many games of tarot. I do suggest watching them in HD so as to better see the illustrations.

Remember to visit www.tarocchino.com to download the pdf book with a large selection of rules. This little book is going to get some further revisions in the next week, so do check back fo rthat.

Promoting the games of tarot over the dominant myth of fortune telling and occult significance is an uphill effort, so if anyone else wants to help - and at this point, I stress that this is a non-commercial effort - then that would be most welcome. There are permissions in the book for reproducing and re-distributing its contents and if you would like to mirror or link to this film, that will all help gain coverage.

A Message for Kathleen Meadows
"Kathleen Meadows is engaged in the supression of information on tarot cards.
Tarot was made for card games, not for divination. She will delete any comment from anyone who tells the truth about these cards. She also has the ratings of her videos disabled.
A lot of so-called psychics tell the media a lot of half truths and outright lies about these cards!
Tarot cards are not really ancient and they were originally made for games and not for fortune telling.
She does not want people to know the real truth about these cards!
She is typical of many tarot reading charlatans.
She wants people to believe the lies she tells the media.
She had a recent upload of mine unfairly flagged for "inappropriate content" for this reason.
My use of the content contitutes fair use as I used it to illustrate how biased and innacurate the media are when covering the subject of tarot cards. The media should inform people that tarot cards were really made for card games!
She does not own that content herself. It is the property of a Canadian TV station. "
From Tarockspieler
"Here is an example of the biased and inaccurate irresponsible reporting often done by the mainstrem media when they do reports on tarot cards.
The annotations are by me. I believe my use of this video constitutes fair use. It is to point out how biased the media are when they do stories on tarot cards.

The cards are not really ancient and they were made for card games and not fortune telling!
Nowhere on the website of Kathleen Meadows, psychic game rapist, is there any mention of the fact
that the cards were made for games. She is distorting peoples culture!
CKCO CTV should be ashamed for broadcasting her distortions unchallenged!
This is a very biased and inaccurate report on tarot cards. It is irresponsible journalism!
Psychics and tarot readers should stop being appointed as exclusive spokespeople for tarot!
The cards were made for games and not divination.
The psychic game rapists love to use the word "tarot" as if divination has always been and is the only use of these cards.
Tarot certification is bullshit. How can there be a correct tarot reading, when these cards were really made for games?
Not only is there no mention of the fact that tarot is really for games, the skeptical point of view on psychics is nowhere mentioned.
Tarot card reading like other psychic activity is nothing but cold reading. CKCO should have included that in their biased and inaccurate report.
There is no evidence that the popular divinatory meanings were intended by the creators of the tarot.
Psychic game rapist, Kathleen Meadows should be ashamed of the half truths and misinformation she is promoting.
She is raping history and culture!
The media should stop this rape of card games and tell the whole truth about tarot cards.
Tarot was made for card games, not for divination!
"This Walt Disney tarot deck was made in France where people use tarot cards to play a nationally popular card game. The tarot deck illustrated here is not a fortune telling tool. It is used to play a card game. If people in American knew that tarot cards could be a game, we could not only have Disney tarot cards but also cards based on Scooby Doo, Loony Tunes, Betty Boop or Star Wars. On one hand,
there's a desire to bring back tarot's original usage as a card game
like bridge or poker. Hence, this Yahoo group for tarot, tarock, and
tarocchi games.

On the other hand, there's a seemingly-endless parade of losers who
are spamming (for lack of a better word) what should be a legitimate
dialog. Case in point: Those retarded Ronald McDonald videos. What,
pray tell, is the point of those stupid videos? It doesn't persuade
anyone that tarot.com sucks. It doesn't impress upon anyone the notion
that tarot is a card game. It looks like a little 5-year-old got bored
with his "Grand Theft Auto" game video and thought it would funny to
do a video on his daddy's laptop. That's not funny. It's not
persuasive in any shape, matter, or form.

I just don't understand how anyone will accomplish the goal of
legitimizing tarot gaming in the mainstream if the only prominent
voices in the mainstream are little babies in need of a Ritalin refill
and a diaper change. What the hell are they doing to help raise
awareness of tarot gaming? Seriously. What the hell have they done to
teach people how to play tarock? For all I know, they are
tarot-divination people trying to discredit the gaming of it. Has
anyone thought about that? (Political candidates do it all the time.)
How do I know it's not a disgruntled tarot.com employee and *that's*
why those videos are posted? I don't care what a disgruntled tarot.com
employee has to say.

I talk about tarot gaming at some local groups here and the first
thing people ask me is, 'Are you the guy who posted those YouTube
videos?," and "Are you the guy who interjects 'tarot is a game! on
private conversations on chat rooms?' It obviously makes my efforts
all the more difficult.

Just a thought."

<lj-embed id="6" />

So now, the first thing people are saying on the topic of Tarot
gaming is not divination but those McRoll videos? Wow! I never would
have imagined that they would have such an impact!

For the uninitiated, these videos are remixes of Japanese McDonald's commericials, often called "McRoll" "Ran Ran Ru" or "Ronald McDonald Insanity"
They first began to appear on the Japanese website Nico Nico Douga and they are now quite prevalent on YouTube.
Lately a number of these "McRoll" videos contain messages attacking the divination website Tarot.com.

The anti-Tarot.com McRolls will typically be titled "Tarot.com Sucks" or "Tarot.com. Experience the Bullshit"
Below is the typical text quoted from these videos:

"Paul O'Brien has been feeding bullshit to the media!
O'Brien is the CEO of Tarot.com and here are some examples of the bullshit he's been feeding to the mainstream media.
'There is an intricate web of intimate relationships and correspondences between Tarot and Astrology.'
THIS IS BULLSHIT!
Beliefnet.com quotes from Paul O'Brien:
'Most people who play cards don't realize that our modern deck of 52 cards is derived from the Tarot deck.'
THIS IS BULLSHIT!
'It was masquerading as a card game for a long time because people could be burned at the stake for using it. And the court cards are modeled after the different royalty of Italian at the time -- there's a pope card, for example. It comes out of medieval Europe and its growth coincides with the printing press and the ability to print cards. It basically coexisted with the Church but was never part of any religion. It was more related to alchemy than religion.'
THIS IS BULLSHIT!
The Brandchannel.com article, Tarot answers by Alycia de Mesa used O'Brien as a source for its article
From the Brandchannel article:
'The Tarot itself is a deck of 78, spiritually meaningful cards whose origins go back over 3,000 years to the Near and Far East.'
THIS IS BULLSHIT!
Here is the evidence based truth about tarot cards!
This is the truth that Paul O'Brien will not tell you!
Tarot cards were not intended for divination!
They were intended for no other purpose than for playing a card game!"

I should mention that I am no fan of Tarot.com. Tarot.com is not always a reliable source of information on the topic of Tarot cards. Like all too many of those making money pushing the divination uses of Tarot cards, Tarot.com have been guilty of misleading the general public and, because they are one one of the leading divination websites, a lot of their distortions end up in the popular press.

However, many people have only heard of them in the context of fortune-telling, and are quite surprised to hear that Tarot cards are also used to play games.

Popularity
The game of Tarot is a particularly popular game in France and Italy but it is also played in the UK. A specialist deck of cards is required.

Location
As all that is needed is a flat surface and a pack of tarot playing cards. The game can be played practically anywhere.

Age
Juniors and adults alike can enjoy the game of tarot.

Ability
All that is needed is the ability to grasp the rules of the game which are quite simple, with a knowledge of the points scoring. Tarot cards are different to standard playing cards so may take a bit of getting used to.

Description
Tarot is a trick-taking card game played throughout France and also known in French-speaking Canada. In the UK it is known as French Tarot. Tarot cards were used for games long before they were used for occult purposes such as tarot reading. Tarot games date back to the early 15th century, when they were first played in Italy. They may be the first card games which had the concept of a trump suit. The use of the cards for fortune-telling is much more recent.

Dedication
The game of Tarot is played using a 78-card set divided into a numbered 21-card series of trump cards, one Fool and 4 suits (spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs) divided into 10 numbered cards (1 to,10). It is a game for 3 or 4 players and can be played with 5 by variation of the rules. The idea of the game is to score points by winning tricks and the various card are assigned points for scoring purposes. This is a very subtle game, which may take some practice to master but great fun to learn.

The Hobbies, Interests, Pastimes and Sports (herein HIPS)
http://www.hipsfinder.com/finder_2fish.php?record=106
